One of the easiest ways to add style to your snowboard airs is to grab your snowboard right? Kinda, but that’s not quite it.
Grabs are great, but how you position your body and hands while you grab is just as important as the grab. If your body isn’t positioned well, the grab doesn’t look stylish.
So, let’s look at a real world example and go over 2 simple ways to make sure your grabs and snowboard airs look stylish.
Have a look at the photo below and guess what you think could be improved:

The rider is doing a solid indy grab in the photo, but it doesn’t quite look perfectly stylish or relaxed. It doesn’t give off that ‘I’m 100% in control’ feeling.
Here are 2 ways we can improve this rider’s grab:

1) Hand up/down – not at in between
Notice the hand pointing out? That looks kind of awkward just hanging in the middle there. Whenever you air and grab, you want to either keep your free hand down and relaxed or fully stretched upright with confidence.
Try to avoid the middle ground.
If your hands are at your side, it looks nice and relaxed. On the flip side, if your hands are stretched fully vertical and upright, it looks like you’re really extending your body and owning that air while you grab.
2) Kick a leg out
One of the simplest ways to add style during the grab is to stick a nosepoke/tailpoke into the grab. Instead of keeping both legs bent, you can extend one leg fully.
This is called a ‘poke’ and it makes your grab look super stylish when done right.
Eg:

Remember, just grabbing isn’t enough, you want to keep your free hand stylish and in-control and if you want to add even more style, kick a leg out.

ps – also avoid grabbing tindy (between tail and rear binding). If you grab tindy by accident, look around and if no one saw you do it I’d suggest denying it ever happened :p

Or to be safe do a double handed grab. I suggest the beef curtains.
