Sadly, one of my favourite ski/snowboard company’s, Voleurz, recently announced it was shutting down it’s operations by the end of this season.
You may know them as the same guys who release a free full length ski/snowboard movie every year.
They’re a local Vancouver/Whistler based company and I know and ride with some of their crew, so of course I’m sad to see it come to an end. I’m sure they’ll continue their mischief in other forms, so I wish their crew the best in their future projects.
Why are they suddenly closing down?
ESPN interviewed one of the founders (here), but besides what was said, it’s not easy for any clothing/apparel brand to succeed right now, especially in an already over saturated niche like snowboarding and skiing.
Voleurz did try to set themselves apart by releasing their free yearly ski/snowboard movie, and it kind of worked because they outlasted a lot of other small snow clothing brands, but at the end of the day it sadly wasn’t enough.
For many, a t-shirt is a t-shirt and it’s not easy to convince ski bums to pay $35 for a t-shirt with your logo on it, especially when there’s a billion other small snow companies trying to do the same thing.
It’s a tough business model in a tough economy and I give them a lot of credit for making it work for so many years.
The last 5 Voleurz ski/snowboard movies (100% free):
Below are the links to their past ski/snowboard films. All their ski/snowboard films are 100% free and they’re always a good time.
1) ‘Kill Your Boredom’
2) ‘That’s Fine’
3) ‘Look On The Bright Side’
4) ‘Outdoor Graduation’
5) ‘Outdoor Education’
Check out their movies, enjoy them and I hope they entertain you as much as they did me.
