Snowboard Tuning – How To Fix Delaminating Edges & Topsheets

By Jedidiah Tan | Follow Him on Twitter

Today’s reader question:

I left my snowboard against a wall and it fell on it’s edge. Now the metal edge is coming off and my topsheet is delaminating as well. Any fixes?

I’ve seen this happen a few times. Most often this is from people leaving their snowboards in the garage and having it fall onto the cement floor. To answer your question, yes and no.

There’s no real ‘do it yourself’ fixes. It’s really, really hard to glue your edges/topsheet back to the snowboard and most do it yourself fixes don’t hold for very long.

However, there is hope! Find a good ski tuning shop, preferably a shop that deals with a lot of ski customisation and tuning. I recommend ski shops because they usually have more experience dealing with this sort of thing than your typical snowboard shop.

A good ski tuning shop will be able to fix it and you’ll be really surprised at how good a job they do of it. I’ve seen snowboard come back looking good as new. It’s not too costly either, certainly a lot cheaper than buying new gear.

Hope that helps and good luck!
