I love the snow and I love ski resorts. However, there are a some things that I hate about ski resorts.
1) Clueless ‘speed patrol’
I understand that you need to have ‘slow zones’ where kids and families can ski safely, but slow does not mean every rider has to go so slow that they can’t make it over the giant flat section that seems to be at the end of every slow zone.
When you see a rider who is clearly in control, has slowed down to a moderate speed and has moved to the side of the ski run to avoid any beginners, you do not need to flag them down and give them a warning. Why is this such a hard concept to understand?
2) Over-the-top season pass fraud checks
Many resorts offer a reward to employees who catch people using other peoples season passes, but that doesn’t mean the employees should be able to harass season pass holders. I understand you want to catch fraudulent passes, but that doesn’t mean you should harass everyone else to find the few cheaters.
Lift ticket scanners shouldn’t be sending people back to re-take their photo just because they look different with a beanie on. That’s ridiculous.
3) Liftys on powertrips
Sorry, but being a lifty does not give you the right to yell at people for touching a chairlift the wrong way. Also, lifting the safety bar up 1 meter too soon, when you’re on the chairlift alone, is also not something that you need to yell about.
What about you? What’s your ski resort pet peeve?
