When travelling long distances or by plane, you need a special bag designed for carrying your ski/snowboard gear. There’s a lot of ski/snowboard bags out there, so what’s the best bag for you?
Here’s some bags we recommend as well as some tips to help you find the best bag for you.
The Best Ski/Snowboard Bags
Dakine and Burton have pretty much become the golden standard for ski and snowboard bags. You’ll find that most stores will usually only carry these two brands.
Note: Just because some bags were meant for snowboards, does not mean you can’t use them for skis as well. Plenty of skiers use snowboard bags for the extra room.
Snowboard Bags
1) Dakine Low Roller

A nice average sized bag that will fit your outerwear, some snow gear, boots and your snowboard (you may be able to fit 2 snowboards in if you dismantle them).
A nice low weight bag at 3 kg (7 lbs) that will still have enough room for the average persons gear requirements.
2) Burton Wheelie Board Case

A nice board bag that’s slightly larger than the Dakine Low Roller but not as huge as the Burton Wheelie Locker. Great for those who want a little bit more room to for extra snowboards/gear, but want to avoid the larger weight increase of the Burton Wheelie Locker.
This bag weighs in at 4.7 kg (10.3 lbs).
3) Burton Wheelie Locker

This is for those who want to put all their snow gear into one bag and stick the kitchen sink in there as well. You get all sorts of fancy features like detachable boot bags and separate compartments for your clothes.
Just be aware that this bag weighs 7 kg (15.4 lbs) without anything in it and that most airlines won’t allow you to check in a bag weighing over 32 kg (70 lbs).
Ski Bags
1) Dakine Fall Line Double

A great average sized ski bag that has room for your boots, snow gear and your skis. You should be able to fit 2 sets of skis into this bag but be warned that it’s a really tight fit if you have a lot of other gear.
Bag weight: 4 kg (8 lbs)
2) Dakine Concourse Double

A nice large size ski bag that will hold all your outerwear/clothes as well as 2 sets of skis. I’d recommend this bag if you’re thinking of carrying more than one pair of skis.
A slightly heavier bag at 5.7 kg (12.5 lbs).

1) Wheels
Always, always, always get a bag with wheels. You pay a little bit extra but trust me, wheels will make your life a hundred times better.
Wheels are probably the biggest feature that many people forget about.
2) Bigger bags equal heavier bags
Keep in mind that you might use your bag for air travel. Large bags weigh more than smaller/average size bags.
3) How long are your skis/snowboard?
Make sure the bag you pick will fit the size of your ski/snowboard gear. Bags are typically given a size based on the maximum ski/snowboard size that will fit inside the bag.
For example, the Dakine Low Roller 165cm will fit skis/snowboards up to about 165 cm.
Remember that you may need to make sure your bag is big enough for any future gear purchases as well.
4) Big or average sized bags?
Different sizes mean different benefits:
- Average sized bags – Easier to divide your gear into multiple bags to avoid overweight fees.
- Big sized bags – You can fit all your gear and clothes into one bag. You may end up paying overweight fees but it may be cheaper than paying for an extra bag.
