So, we’re considering swapping over to just Facebook comments on the blog. In the past we considered it, but never went through with it because we didn’t want people to be scared to speak their minds.
Here are the reasons we’re considering swapping over:
1) Spam is becoming a pain
Unfortunately, spam is slowly getting past our spam filter 🙁 I’m having to log in each day and manually delete spam comments advertising all sorts of random junk.
Facebook comments would get rid of spam for the most part.
2) I like knowing who I’m talking to
It’s different talking to someone with a real name and face vs. some guy called ‘Bobo Mc Bobbostein’ who uses random anonymous names to comment. I encourage anyone to share their comments and I’ve never deleted anyones comment just for disagreeing with me, but I prefer having a conversation with a real name.
For me at least, it’s nice to know I’m talking to someone who stands behind what they say. When someone comments as an anonymous name, it’s harder to tell if they really stand behind their comments or if they’re just trolling.
Anyhow, I know taking away non facebook comments would have some downsides such as people being worried about revealing their real names, so it’s something we’re asking for your feedback on.
