I read an exciting bit of information today which means we might all save some money: Kayak.com has started pairing together one-way fare deals from separate airlines to create round trips.
What does this mean?
From time to time, airlines offer one-way discounted fares. With a lot of searching, you were sometimes able to pair together two one-way fares from different airlines to create a cheaper round trip ticket.
For example: Singapore Airlines may offer a one way trip from Singapore to Vegas for $200 and American Airlines may be offering a one-way trip from Vegas to Singapore for $200. If you paired them together you’d end up with a cheaper round trip ticket than just buying a normal round trip ticket from one airline.
So what is Kayak doing?
It means that Kayak.com will be the first of the major flight booking websites to pair together separate one-way fares from different airlines. This means you’ll be able to find the cheapest fare with a lot less searching involved.
Look for these fares to be labelled ‘Hacker’ fares. They will still require two bookings, but they’ll typically be cheaper than other fares and you’ll be able to book both directly through Kayak.
