What Resort Jobs Offer The Most Free Time For Skiing/Snowboarding

By Jedidiah Tan | Follow Him on Twitter

I got a great question yesterday via email:

What’s a job that gives you plenty of riding time?

Good question.

Jobs

What job areas should you look at?

The best jobs for getting the most time on the hill are usually in the food or drink services. This is because places like restaurants or bars need to service the dinner or late night club crowd, which means you can work later in the day and enjoy the whole morning on the slopes.

There’s also instructing, but do note that instructors usually spend a lot of time on the green runs and you may be stuck on the baby slopes on epic powder days.

What job positions should you aim for?

Bartending is probably one of the higher paying jobs overall, but it’s also one of the hardest jobs to get at resorts because locals usually aim for these positions. It’s not impossible to get a job bartending, but you’ll need to really stand out from the other applicants.

I recommend looking at places like pizza shops or restaurants with dinner shifts. Do note that you will usually need to arrive before the season begins to get these jobs, because everyone wants the evening shift at the restaurant.

Also, if you can, try to get a job at a more expensive restaurant. It’s not uncommon for servers at expensive restaurants to pull in huge amounts in tips, especially during holidays.

In addition, if you’re big and male, you can look at bouncer positions at bars and nightclubs. Bouncers get a nice late shift and also get the perks of getting into other bars/clubs at the resort very easily.

Hope that helps and good luck on the job hunt!
