Our Free Snowboard Gear Guide:

Why Money In Snowboarding Isn’t A Bad Thing

Money in snowboarding has it's advantages.

Money in snowboarding has it's advantages.

There’s a lot of people who complain about big companies getting into snowboarding and that our sport is becoming too much about making money. Whether they complain because snowboarding is becoming less ‘core’ or because they think big companies like Nike are going to ruin our sport, personally, I don’t get them.

On one hand, they’re complaining about too much money from big ‘sweatshop companies’ coming into the sport, but on the other hand they’re happy to go hit the terrain parks and use gear that only exists because of all the money and growth that’s happening in snowboarding.

You’re either on one side or the other. You can’t complain about all the money being put into our sport while happily using something that only exists because of all that money. You want amazing resorts like Whistler with all the bells and whistles? Then accept the fact that they need big companies in snowboarding to continue growing and innovating in our sport.

Big isn’t always bad and change isn’t always for the worst. Sure there are negatives to money changing our sport, but sometimes the positives can outweigh the negatives.
