Priceline.com
What is priceline?
It’s similar to other flight booking websites, except they offer a bidding system for your flight fee. Bidding is simple, you just put in whatever price you want to pay for your flight ticket.
How do I bid successfully?
- Research the current price of a ticket for your travel dates and destination. Use any of the main flight booking sites such as Kayak.com or Hipmunk.com
- Once you have the regular price of your flight ticket, go back to priceline and start bidding at 50% of the regular price
- You’ll be notified within 60 seconds of whether your bid was successful or not
- If bid was not successful, increase your bid in increments until your bid is accepted (ie. go up by $20 each time you bid)
The closer you are to your flight date, the more likely you are to save a ton of money
What’s the catch?
There isn’t a catch. Airlines need their seats filled and any empty seat is a loss of money. However they can’t be constantly advertising lower prices because it would  mean customers won’t pay regular prices any more.
This is why they use websites like Priceline.com to sell empty seats.
