Want More Time On The Slopes? How Much Do You Want It?

By Jedidiah Tan | Follow Him on Twitter

Luging In Wanaka

Just another fun day in Queenstown with the Snowboard Addiction crew.

What separates the people who get to snowboard all year and the people that don’t? My opinion: They want it more.

Every person I’ve met who skis or snowboards a lot is there because they wanted it more. They get out to the slopes every chance they get.

How is this different from every other person that enjoys snowboarding you ask?

They go for what they want

They’re not sitting back saying, “I wish I could snowboard more.” They’re actively going out there and snowboarding more. Even if it means they have to work for minimum wage washing dishes, they’ll do it if it means they can snowboard more.

How many people do you know who would be willing to do that? Not many I think. Most people don’t want to work minimum wage or take the risks associated with becoming a ski bum. They want to snowboard more, but don’t want to take any of the chances and risks associated with snowboarding more.

How much do you want it?

Know where I’d be if I didn’t move to Whistler back in 2006? I’d probably be in an office saying, “I wish I could snowboard more.” I had friends who literally said to me,”You know you’re going to end up homeless and broke right?” Sometimes you have to go with what you think is right for you.

There’s always going to be risks associated with big life changes, but as I sit here thinking about the amazing life I’ve had snowboarding over the last 5 years, isn’t it sometimes worth it?
