Finding it hard to drag yourself to the gym? You're not alone.
If you’re anything like me, you don’t enjoy coming back from a long day on the hill then having to go to the gym/workout. So how do you make yourself do it? Simple. We use something that’s already built into us: habits.
Humans are creatures of habit. Ever find yourself looking at the same websites over and over? How about when you arrive home? Do you tend to do the same few things right after you get home every day? It’s because it’s become part of your habit. You do it without thinking. So here’s how you make going to the gym part of your habit.
How to form habits
Research has shown that it takes roughly 30 days of repeating the same routine in order to make it a habit. So, this means you need to be going to the gym regularly for at least 30 days. After that, it becomes part of what you’ve trained yourself to do.
It’s not going to force you to go to the gym, but it will make it so you may think, “Oh it’s Monday night, I better go to the gym.” I know many of you are just as lazy as me, so getting yourself thinking that you should go to the gym each night is really half the battle. Once you’re on your way, you’re not as likely to stop yourself.
That’s it. Now stop being lazy and drag yourself to the gym once in awhile. It’s an important step to prolonging your ability to keep snowboarding into your old age!
