Got another great question today via twitter today:
Where can I ski/snowboard in the summer? (US/Canada)
There are actually a couple of places that you can ski/snowboard during the summer in North America.
They are:
1) Whistler Blackcomb, Canada
Whistler has an glacier on Blackcomb Mountain which operates from mid June to the last week of July each year.
Freeriding
The freeride area isn’t huge, due to the limited size of the glacier. However, the weather is warm and the snow is soft in the afternoon and it can be a fun for a few runs on the glacier.
Freestyle and Racing
Amazing freestyle offerings. There are numerous freestyle camps which build superpipes and large parks on the glacier. This means you get to ride world class park during the summer!
For the racers out there, there are several camps that offer access to moguls and other racing training/coaching.
The camps on the glacier are:
Camp of Champions – A HUGE camp and one of the best known summer snow camps in the world. They offer the biggest variety of freestyle features.
Dave Murray Summer Ski & Snowboard Camp – The longest running ski/snowboard camp in N. America. They offer both freestyle and racing terrain.
Momentum Ski Camp – A skier only camp which focuses on mogul and freestyle training.
Planet Ski International Camp – Similar to Momentum, this is a skier focused camp that offers mogul and freestyle training.
High Five Camp – A snowboard camp with a focus on freestyle training for young adults.
Whistler Summer Snowboard Camp – A snowboard only camp focusing on freestyle training. They have access to their own private halfpipe.
Tip – If you don’t want coaching, many camps offer a paid pass to use their parks without any coaching or accommodation/catoring
2) Mt. Hood, USA
Summer riding is available on Mt. Hood in the form of freestyle camps from mid June to mid August.
2 camps currently operate from Mt. Hood:
High Cascade Snowboard Camp – A snowboard only camp which cators to all age groups and skill levels.
Windells – A snowboard, skateboard, ski & bmx camp.
Hope this helps you out! Of course, if you have the money, it’s hard to beat a trip over to NZ/Australia or South America 😉
